8 ears on Facebook
8 ears has outdone itself this time. Better than the last album. It is as if 8 ears has left its anger and emotional discords behind and move on to relish in the more uplifting aspects of life.

No, 8 ears has not sold its soul for commercialism. Neither has 8 ears had allowed itself to be a bit more accessible without compromise to its identity and sound. The unique retro-ish electronica signatures are still inherently coherent. Although 8 ears modestly refused to acknowledge it, I sense that 8 ears is now more confident and comfortable with its work.

The opening track, I Thought, I Thought is a work of redemption by 8 ears. It displays the sunny side that was absent in its previous works.

Sorry I Forgot has plenty of beeps and bleeps with a cheeky funky electronic chorus. It brings back memories of the early 80s Atari game console days.

Where Were You? is the standout track on my intial listen. I like the Depeche Mode-ish intro rhythm beat and the middle-eastern nuances in it.

The interview elusive Wei Shein is the one man band and composer of all the tracks on Yesterday's EP. Accordingly to Wei Shein, the EP title (Yesterday's EP) is reflective of his current deep rooted stand in the 80s eletronic sound and also a "sort of fusion of past & present ideas".

It's pretty interesting to see 8 ears moving forward and reflect its maturing progression. 8 ears sounds better, tighter and more cohesive. Meanwhile, the album sleeve which features the IR photography work of Rizal Razak is a darker contrast to its previous EP covers.

8 ears will probably get not much (if at all) radio airplay for its work. Radio stations in Malaysia only play "safe" music. Kudos to 8 ears for another brave attempt. -GlySinn
